Violet walking

My most Unforgetable TV Moment

I was watching the now defunct "Salley Jesse Raphael" show. She was interviewing this young guy who had been in a fiery automobile accident with his sister. They had crashed head on into a tree on a residential street. The car exploded in flames. He was able to get out just in time with barely a scratch; she perished in the flames. All he could do is stand there and watch helplessly...he couldn't even see her for the raging fire. But he yelled to her, "I love you Jenny!" From the midst of the flames he heard back, "I love you too!" Excluding cataclysmic "current events," that's "my most unforgetable TV moment"---do you have one?

My Favorite Picture of Violet

I've seen many, many pictures of Violet, but, if I may say so, this one is my favorite. Precious is the word! That twinkle in her eye, that sweet expression!

Tell Your Kiddos Not to Fall For Marketing Gimmicks

According to this article, pictured is America's Youth.

Pediatricians take aim at advertising to kids

CHICAGO The American Academy of Pediatrics wants government bans and restrictions on advertising to teens and children.Suggested guidelines published in the journal "Pediatrics," note that children are bombarded with 40-thousand television commercials a year and three-thousand each day.
The University of New Mexico's Doctor Victor Strasburger, lead author of the guidelines, says the ads have an affect on obesity, sex, drugs, smoking, and drinking.
The academy recommends limiting television ads to 12 minutes per hour and banning commercials promoting junk food and fast food in programs for young children. The academy also suggests greater control of product "tie-ins" between movies and fast food restaurants.
A McDonald's spokesman says such restrictions belong in the home.
The Beer Institute, an industry lobbying group, says parental control is the key to stopping under-aged drinking, not censorship. * http://www.whbf.com/Global/story.asp?S=5763335&nav=0zGo

3000 commercials per day? Parents, is that possible?

A Little Something for Everyone

Alright, so I understand I write lengthy e-mails in an attempt to incite a riot. Like yelling movie in a crowded firehouse.

I realize that some of you may not be up to speed with my humor or take on the world, so this post is for you. A lot of you work all day and come home and have to whip up some grub for the fam. Here’s a quickie accoutrement that should liven up any table.

Potato/Kale/Soysage CasseroleIngredients (use vegan versions):
6-8 medium-sized potatoes (I used russet) about 1 cup of vegetable broth about 1/2 cup of soymilk salt parsley garlic dill, and/or basil to taste, and/or seasonings of your choice about half a bunch of kale (I used black kale, which for some reason I find more appealing), chopped fine 1 package vegan cheese (I used Follow Your Heart Monterey Jack), grated 1 large onion, cut into thin strips 1 package vegan turkey slices (I use Tofurkey Kielbasa) sliced into small rounds, or vegan soysage of your choiceDirections:Boil the potatoes till soft and mash them with the broth, soy milk, and seasonings. (I always mash mine with the peel, but use your own judgment). Steam the kale for about 10 minutes, or until crispy-soft (I did this in a bamboo steamer over the boiling potatoes). Mix the potato mixture with the kale and all but about 1/4 of the cheese. Sautee the onion until soft, and mix in the soysage slices until warmed over. Top the potato mixture with the onion/soysage mixture, and spread the rest of the cheese over the whole thing. Put the whole thing on the top rack of the oven on the highest temperature setting (broil on mine) until the cheese melts. If you are not using vegan cheese that melts well, just broil it for about 5 minutes.serve with a nice salad!filling, and VERY yummy!Serves: about 8Preparation time: about 30 min

Bon Appetit

This aggression will not stand, man.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,28009-2469944,00.html

This is a link detailing how the Patriot Act is being used to convict a couple that got a little too amorous on an airplane.

This is where treading on our civil liberties won’t make protecting us with a Patriot Act worth it.

You know, I blame television. Most people have been programmed to drone out at the TV which requires no participation at all. They just watch all of this go by but do nothing about it. Pretty soon you’re used to watching this stuff slip by. It’s not a surprise anymore. It started with search and seizure, then probable cause laws, racial profiling and has evolved into wire tapping, eaves dropping and Guantanamo Bay. Martial Law has already been declared and most of America is staring into a blue cave. Waiting for it to be reported on the news.

That’s why this blog is important. It’s an exchange of information and view points because you aren't forced to participate with a TV. We’re forced to think, to articulate; to consider something new. It’s our obligations as Americans to not take anything for granted. And don't let this stuff go by.

I think using the Patriot Act to convict someone for something it was not intended is wrong. The couple were a little cocky, granted. What about the First Amendment? I think it is an injustice because this is not an act of terrorism, no matter how risqué. This aggression will not stand, man.

Who’s with me?
