Those border patrol agents

Are you familiar with the story? Care to comment? Almost everybody is taking the side of the agents, saying that they were doing their job. The story as most are telling it: A Mexican illegal alien and drug smuggler, attempted to secret nearly 800 pounds of marijuana into the United States in his van. Agent Compean chased Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila by vehicle and on foot, ordering him to stop. Compean says Aldrete-Davila ignored him, pushed him down, and assaulted him, whereupon the agent called for backup. When Ramos arrived on the scene, he heard gunfire, saw Compean on the ground, and the fugitive – still refusing to stop as commanded – holding something shiny he believed to be a handgun. Both state they felt threatened, and both fired rounds in the alien’s direction, Ramos striking him in the buttocks. The alien got away, but the two men had jeopardized their own well-being to keep his noxious contraband off our streets. Now these agents are serving 11 and 12 year sentences for doing their job.

I don't know everything about this story, but I think there is more to it than meets the eye. Do you have any comments?

Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?

WASHINGTON — President Bush will acknowledge in an address to the nation tonight that U.S. policy in Iraq has failed and will send in 21,500 more troops to try to quell sectarian violence and bolster the Iraqi government, according to a senior administration official. Tonight Bush will request $5.6 billion from Congress to pay for the new commitment of troops. In other news....... USA Today reports there were 744,000 homeless people in the United States in 2005, according to the first national estimate in a decade. That is 744,000 potential heroes we can to send to Iraq that would love some food and board. Give them a gun. A lot less people will complain about the war if its just the homeless getting thinned out.

Boy, This is Really Going to Piss Madonna Off!

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina artist intrigued by the public obsession with celebrity has found herself feeding that obsession with a painting of actress Angelina Jolie as the Virgin Mary hovering over a Wal-Mart check-out line.
"Blessed Art Thou," has gotten much attention from celebrity websites and blogs.
On her blog, Kretz, 43, said the painting addresses "the celebrity worship cycle." She said she chose Jolie for the subject "because of her unavoidable presence in the media, the worldwide anticipation of her child, her 'unattainable' beauty and the good that she is doing in the world through her example, which adds another layer to the already complicated questions surrounding her status."
