What should they do now?

Here is the story. Down the street from Alyssa and Leo lives Bettina. Bettina is also in the flower business and Alyssa sees her at the flower market occasionally. One evening before Christmas, Bettina knocks at the door. She came with a bottle of wine and a Christmas card. Later, after she had left, it was noticed on the card that Bettina had written, "To Alyssa and Martin." For some reason or other, she thought Leo's name was Martin. Alyssa was going to send her a thank-you card and sign it "Alyssa and Leo." That way she would know what Leo's name really was. But, yesterday, at the flower market, Bettina and Alyssa ran into each other. And, Bettina asked, "How's Martin?" Alyssa didn't know how to tell her that she had the name wrong, so she said, "Fine." Now what? Any suggestions? Leo says that maybe around her, he will just be Martin. Everybody, help out here. Suggestions, please.

Alyssa had the perfect chance to correct her when she saw her at the flower shop. From this point on it will only get harder. So how is Martin anyway?

Why didn't Alyssa just tell her at the flower place that his name was really Leo? Um, I say now, just let it play out naturally. Alyssa could say something like "Leo and I loved that wine". But if she doesn't do something like that, I think just forget about it. Martin isn't that bad of a name.

I'd say, "he goes by Leo but some call him Martin." Where in the hell did she get Martin from? I guess he looks a little more like a Martin than a Leo. It sort of works. My advice--Let's all just call him Martin so as to not upset Bettina.

Miss Manners would say there only one way to handle it. A simple "It's Mike, Dear" would do. She will be embarassed and flustered, especially if she sees him at the Polo club or the Theatre one evening. I mean after all you can't let her go around calling Mike Martin. How embarassing for the poor thing.

I think Martin sounds like a Mexican (oh, sorry, I mean Hispanic) name.

Maybe anonymous is Martin.

The best way to handle this situation without making anyone feel uncomfortable is to change Leo's name to Martin.

Okay. Good idea. For now on, Leo is Martin. Someone let his side of the family know, okay?

WOW! Alyssa and Leo's first crisis. How will they handle this dilemma! This is a quagmire and half. Maybe... Leo should stand in front of Bettina's house and Alyssa should scream down the street LEO, LEO!

Alyssa, I am so sorry. This webpage was forwarded to me when the baby was first born by Hunter Tate who I guess knows your sister? Anyhow, I expected look at new pictures of the baby and couldn’t help but notice this entry. Please apologize to Leo for me, I don’t know where I got Martin from but I am truly embarrassed. I apologize to you and your family.

Robert seems to have a knack for good ideas.

Question for Robert: Is there a drivel filter that we can use to weed out the nonsense on this blog?

This is Drivilleville, USA.

Anonymous awaits your reply.

Gracias, Bettina.

You guys... (as Greg would say)

When Bettina asked Alyssa how Martin is, Alyssa should have said, "Which one?"

But what to do NOW? Send the thank you card, sign it Alyssa and Leo, and add P.S. Martin says Hi!

Martin is clearly one of the many guys that Alyssa was banging on the side.
