Shavawn is a great teacher!

Shavawn just got the results of her students' California Standard scores. Last year these kids were in the third grade. And, at that time, under other teachers, eight percent of these kids scored proficient or advanced. Eight percent! Not too good, huh? But, in Shavawn's school there are a lot of English-Language learners (Spanish-speaking) students. Now they are in the fourth grade, in Shavawn's class. This year the goal for every teacher was to get 26 percent of the class to score proficient. Well, Shavawn's class scored higher than any other 4th-grade classroom! 44 percent of her students scored proficient! From eight percent to 44 percent! The consultant told her, "You really pulled the fourth-grade team through!"

See, what one dedicated person can do !!!! Wish we had many, many teachers like Shavawn. Ive always said Im so proud of all of your accomplishments Shavawn. You paid your own way, working multiple jobs, getting off one shift, dashing to another work place. I believe the old saying"where theres a will, theres a way."
I know the whole family feels like I do about you Shavawn, we love you and are proud of you !

Thats true what Mom is saying Shavawn. She was bragging about you the other day how you have worked so hard to put yourself through school. Those kids are so lucky to have you for a teacher.

Shavawn! Those kids (and their parents) are so fortunate that they have YOU for a teacher! And I am so happy for you that you found what you love to do and do so well. You know how we always say who our favorite teacher was, or who was a good teacher, etc? Well, years from now YOU will be the subject of those conversations those children have about that when they grow up.

I remember Shavawn playing school in her room when she was just 4 or 5 years old. In fact, I have it on tape. "You, young man in the ... (pause) pink shirt". Everything grandma said about Shavawn is true. She worked several jobs, running from one to another (and then to class) to put herself through school. Shavawn is down to earth, genuine, the real deal and her kids love her. Yes I am very proud of you too Shavawn. Mom
