What's the top cash crop in the United States?

And, it's not subsidized by the federal government.

Answer: Marijuana

Marijuana is now the biggest cash crop grown in the US, exceeding traditional harvests such as wheat, corn and soy beans.

You know, this being the case we should legalize it, tax it and fund schools and scholarships and stuff. It seems if we paid our teachers more we’d have better quality students. Make reefer smoking a prerequisite for certain scholarships like athletic programs that require urine tests. Beat them at their own game.

There is a great movie called “Grass” narrated by Woody Harrelson that details the propaganda behind the anti marijuana movement in the US. It is one sided but informative and it makes some good points like there is no evidence in the independent scientific community that conclusively proves marijuana should be criminalized. Just the government research which is skewed and biased and altered quite frankly. I think our brains get worse fried by being inundated with TV commercials and useless information.

Freaking legislators are pill popping, coke sniffing, skirt chasing (or little boy chasing), alcohol guzzling hypocrites dictating yours and my personal freedoms. And most of Americans are driveling chattel. Pot is a perfect example. Don’t get me started on the medical benefits the Feds fight tooth and nail to discredit.

It is purported no hippies were harmed in the filming of this movie but it does a good job illustrating the governmental attempts to regulate marijuana which started as prejudice against Hispanics. Authorities deducted they could control the Hispanics if they controlled the pot. And the lie was born.

Anyone want to start a legalize pot conversation? It should have its own blog!

Yes, Drew, let's start a "legalize pot" thread here. It should definitely be legal, in my opinion. As should all drugs. But, as far as funding schools with the taxes, bad idea. There should not be any tax on it just like there should not be any tax on any other item you purchase from the store. Example: I am buying a new computer and I won't be needing my old one. My neighbor needs a computer, and my old one is just perfect for him. I will sell it to my neighbor for $200. This is a transaction between my neighbor and me. But, then, the guy who lives across the street from me says, Hey, when you sell that computer to your neighbor, I want you to add $20 to the price. So, sell the computer to him for $220, and give me (the guy across the street) the extra $20. I would think, Excuse me! It's MY computer. This transaction does not involve you. What gives you the right to interfere here? Wouldn't you feel that way? So, the guy across the street has no right to interfere in my private transaction. When I purchase something from Circuit City, that is also a private transaction. Circuit City and me. The guy across the street does not have a right to interefere there either. Why do we think the government has a right to interfere? Just because it is done on a grand scale, does that make it okay? Am I wrong?

But taxation is the only way they’ll sign off on legalization. Making sure it goes to strengthen the minds of the youth is something hard to say no to. Unless you are against taxes altogether which is cool but unlikely to happen. As a matter of fact I’m pretty sure we’d all go down in a blaze of gun fire.

Realistically though, don’t you think if we appeal to the greed of the politicians and the heart strings of the people it would be more widely embraced as a viable policy. The tough part will be that the US Government admitting it has been spinning propaganda since the early 1900’s. They don’t like admitting they are wrong. They just now released the last of Lennon’s file. Idiots.

Jimmy Carter had a pro pot platform for awhile but Billy killed it for him politically and he had to waiver. The Carter’s were friends with Hunter S. Thompson and Rosalynn tried convert him and almost did! Closest we ever came.
