It's for the children! New law which goes into effect February says that thrift stores can no longer sell clothing or toys for ages under 13 -- unless they go through rigorous testing for lead. Of course, most thrift stores do not even know about this law, nor could they afford the laboratory testing for each piece of clothing they sell. First the government allows the country to go bankrupt, then won't allow families with children to buy cheap clothing for their kids. (--Thanks, Tavia, for alerting me to this 'life-saving' law.)

There are no justifications for ANYTHING they vote into law.
Oh well. . . doesn't affect me. I guess we shall never rise up to protest. Ho-hum. We roll over like sloths.

but really- i googled this and didnt find what the REASON for this was. it seems very random
"The law, aimed at keeping lead-filled merchandise away from children, mandates that all products sold for those age 12 and younger -- including clothing -- be tested for lead and phthalates, which are chemicals used to make plastics more pliable. Those that haven't been tested will be considered hazardous, regardless of whether they actually contain lead."

right, but surley this isnt the only things that could contain lead.. and why baby clothes? why not like plastic spray bottles? its all pretty random to me
