Linnette, I feel that the federal government should bud out, but of course fat chance of that. Much as we despise what Lori Drew did, if she technically did nothing illegal, forget about it, don't go making 100 new laws on the backs of us all over one woman's despicable conduct. It is MySpace's rules that were violated. It should be up to MySpace whether to prosecute in this case. I confess I don't know a lot about this case and look forward to learning more as others respond to your question.
I am surprized when I hear people saying Lori Drew should be charged with manslaughter. The girl was obviously emotionally fragile and it is her parents that should have been protecting her. What Lori Drew did was unkind, but not criminal. Bud out BIG BROTHER.
DA-If it had been you that had the communication with this fake person, would you have hung yourself? No.
Lori Drew did not cause the death of Megan. Megan hung herself because she was not well mentally or emotionally. Only her parents are to blame for her death.
Nobody disagrees? We are all so intelligent. Just kidding. I would really like to hear a dissenting opinion. Because there sure are a lot of people on the Internet who think she should be charged.

What did she do? Pretend to be someone she's not? That's a crime? Why aren't the going after everyo0ne else on the internet that is pretending?
The ONLY reason they are making a big deal about this is because the girl killed herself.
It's tragic that the girl killed herself. But, the real responsibility falls on the girl herself and the girl's parents.

Some people are saying "this woman should be punished". Since when it is a crime to be mean or play a trick on someone?
Would criminal charges be in order if Megan had been communicating with a real boy?
What if the real boy had told her “to die” in person, instead of over the computer?
The Feds are getting involved BECAUSE this was done over the Internet and the purpose is to enable Federal control of the Internet.
