Another "Freedoms Being Lost" Alert: Spray Paint

In St. Louis, they don't want to see any more graffiti. So, a legislator, Ms. Baringer has presented a bill that would treat spray paint and markers like weapons. Restrict who can buy them, require buyers to show ID, and impose a criminal penalty for illegal possession. The proposed bill deals with "graffiti tools," which include spray paint, paint sticks, and fat-tipped markers. If you want to buy three or more of these blacklisted implements, you must present a photo ID. Stores will have the burden of recording the sales and buyers' personal information and hand that info over to police if requested.

Now, what do YOU think?

Fat-tipped markers?

Fat-tipped markers . . . those big bulky markers?

I don't like this law. More bureacratic red-tape imposed on everyone because of the crimes of a few.

And the law wouldn't work to begin with; as though it would keep these items out of the hands of graffiti criminals! There would just be a black market for those "graffiti tools," or they would be purchased across state lines.

If they can't control the availability of drugs, how could they control the availabilty of Magic Markers and cans of spray paint?

If they're talking about those Marks-a-lot washable markers, we use those all the time at work, and order a lot of them in bulk. They'll probably start monitoring us now. Ooooh government, I'm so scared. Boo-hoo, I'm just shakin' in my boots. lol

I don't think people have any idea of what they are doing. Nothing is thought through. How will this effect the future of America? Soon everyone will be in jail. Can you say revenue?

Yes, they do need to stop disrespecting people's property, but isn't there a law already for that? Must we outlaw markers just because they're used for illegal activities? What's next, shall we outlaw lighters and matches because arsonists use them to start fires? How far should we go, HENRY?

You know, the other anonymous may be on to something, but seeing the porch as half empty of porch monkeys, instead of half full of those rascals!

With the economy heading in the crapper maybe what we need are more public works projects, which brought us out of the Great Depression in the 30's. We hire workers and pay them to go cover up the graffiti. And pick up all the debris on the side of the road too. I think road cleaning is the first thing thrown out of the budget in LA. Put people to work making an honest living. Also, the FBI is reporting an increase in bank robberies lately. The proceeds which are going to buy more tagging materials no less. It's only going to get worse from here. We need a government agency and some lobbyists.......
